UND Falls to Minnesota 82-62 in Final Exhibition Game

The Hawks will open up the regular season at No. 15 Alabama on Nov. 3 at 7 p.m.

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The North Dakota men's basketball team fell to Minnesota on Saturday afternoon from Williams Arena by a score of 82-62.

The game featured six lead changes and four ties, as the Hawks held a lead for 3:33 of game time, with their largest lead being three points when they were up 12-9 with 14:27 remaining in the first half.

North Dakota had three players in double-figures offensively, paced by Garrett Anderson who tallied 14 points on 5-of-9 shooting and 2-of-4 from three-point range. Greyson Uelmen put up 13 points and Marley Curtis recorded 10.

The Hawks captured 12 steals, compared to nine from the Gophers, with senior Eli King snatching five steals and freshman Anthony Smith lll having three.

The Green and White scored 20 points in the paint, compared to 46 from the Gophers and just four fast break points contrasted to 20 from Minnesota.

UND was competitive in the first half, trailing just 16-14 with 10:33 to play following an Uelmen made basket, but a 3:46 Hawks scoring drought and 7-0 Gophers run put Minnesota up 23-14. The Hawks fell behind by as many as 16, down 37-21 with 2:46 to play, but ended the half on an 8-3 run headlined by five straight points from Curtis and capped off by a Zach Kraft three-point basket from the left wing before time expired. UND trailed 40-29 at the break.

Kraft and Smith lll provided six total bench points for the Hawks in the first half, with UND shooting 9-for-25 from the field and 4-for-14 from deep in the first 20 minutes off a three-pointer each from Kraft, Curtis, Uelmen and Anderson.

North Dakota cut the Gophers lead to eight early in the second half when Curtis connected on a corner three in UND's first offensive possession to make the score 40-32. Minnesota responded with six points to push the lead back to 14, but a Kraft three made it 46-35 with 16:10 to play.

That was as close as UND would get, falling behind by as many as 26. North Dakota shot 12-for-28 from the field in the second half, falling 82-62.
