Hawks Win at Oral Roberts in Four Sets

UND had four players with six or more kills, led by Paige Barber with a match-high 15.

TULSA, Okla. – The North Dakota volleyball team picked up a road victory over Oral Roberts (25-21, 19-25, 25-20, 25-19) on Thursday evening from Mabee Arena. NoDak improves to 7-15 and 4-7 in conference play, while Oral Roberts falls to 2-21 and 0-11 in Summit League play.

The match featured 24 ties and 12 lead changes, as the Hawks picked up their first road win of the season, winning set one, dropping set two and taking sets three and four.

UND had a balanced attack offensively, having four players register six or more kills. Paige Barber had a match-high 15 kills, followed by eight from Matthea Dalton, seven from Katy Riviere and six from Ava Galvan.

Defensively, Izzie McCormick had a team-high 15 digs, followed by 12 digs from Sadie White and 10 digs from Barber. White contributed 31 assists, good for her sixth double-double of the season and Barber earned her third double-double of the year.

Five Hawks had two or more blocks, in Vanessa Washington (4), Galvan (3), Riviere (3), White (3) and Kimanni Rugley (2).

North Dakota fell behind in set one by as many as six, trailing 11-5 then 13-8. Down 13-8, UND flipped momentum completely, going on a 9-1 run to take a 17-14 advantage. From there the Fighting Hawks continued their strong play, finding themselves up 22-21, scoring three straight points to end the set, taking the frame 25-21.

The Hawks only held 1-0 and 2-1 leads in set two, but neither team led by more than two through the first 34 points of the set, with Oral Roberts leading 18-16. The Golden Eagles created some separation from that point, closing the set on a 7-3 run to win 25-19.

Set three was another highly competitive frame, with the Hawks finding themselves down 14-11. With their back against the walls, the Fighting Hawks used a 7-0 run, featured by two kills from Riviere, one from Rugley and one from Dalton to take an 18-14 lead. NoDak led by as many as six, taking set three, 25-20.

The fourth set was close for the first 19 points of the frame, with North Dakota clinging to a 10-9 lead. An 8-2 burst from the Hawks created separation, going up 18-11. North Dakota did not look back, ending the match off a Barber kill, assisted by Reagan McIntosh to take set four, 25-19.

North Dakota will be back in action on the road Saturday at 12 p.m. against Denver. Coverage can be found on the Summit League Network.
