Phoenix Defeat Fighting Hawks in Tuesday Night Contest

Green Bay, Wis. – North Dakota and Green Bay locked into an entertaining and back-and-forth battle early on in Tuesday night's game before the Phoenix lit it up in the second half and stifled the visitors for the 67-43 loss.

Mikayla Aumer led the scoring for NoDak with her 10 points off a 4-of-8 shooting from the floor with two three-pointers. Ava Miller added in nine points—with two triples—and absolutely cleaned the glass with a dominant 18 rebounds as freshman London Harris also dished in nine points. Walker Demers led with three assists and a career-high three blocks, and Sydney Piekny tallied two steals.

The Hawks ripped down 41 rebounds compared to the 34 rebounds for the Phoenix, but North Dakota committed 26 total turnovers in the affair and shot 29.2 percent from the floor.

Competition opened fast and opened strong as Harris drilled a three-pointer to kick things off. A layup from Miller and a triple from Aumer tied things up at 8 apiece with seven minutes remaining before Piekny put the Hawks ahead once again. Back-and-forth continued throughout the period, featuring Mackenzie Hughes reclaiming the lead from the free throw line, but it was the jumper from Harris with 10 seconds remaining that gave UND the 15-14 advantage at the end of the first.

North Dakota's first bucket in the second quarter came from Ava Miller, who knocked down a triple after Finley Ohnstad collected a block off a Phoenix three-point attempt. A layup from Hughes and free throws from Skyler Volmer pushed things to a 22-17 lead for the visitors. Harris and Aumer teamed up to push it to a seven-point differential, but then the home team rallied for a 15-3 scoring streak to take control at 35-30 at the half.

The momentum completely flipped in the second half, as the Phoenix went on to hold the Fighting Hawks to just 13 points in the second half. It first became a double-digit game at 42-32 but Green Bay continued to push and respond. UND was held scoreless for nearly four minutes in the third while the home team went up 48-38 at the final quarter break.

Ava Miller hit a three-pointer at the 8:39 mark in the fourth, but NoDak would not score again til 1:39 remaining, ending in a 67-43 loss.
