North Dakota Falls in Three Sets to Jackrabbits in Season Finale

Paige Barber and Katy Riviere combined for 16 kills in the loss.

BROOKINGS, S.D. – The North Dakota volleyball team wrapped up its 2025 season, falling in three sets to South Dakota State (25-18, 25-14, 25-15) on Tuesday night from First Bank and Trust Arena. The Hawks finish the season 7-20 and 4-12 in Summit League play, while the Jackrabbits finish at 22-3 and 16-0 in conference play.

The match featured four ties and three lead changes, as the Hawks were led offensively by Paige Barber (9) and Katy Riviere (7), with the duo combining for 16 of the teams 28 kills on the evening.
Defensively, UND had 12 block assists, led by Vanessa Washington with three. Kimanni Rugley, Olivia Edlund, Barber and Riviere each had two along with one from Ava Galvan.

Set one was competitive for a good portion of the frame. UND fell behind 7-1, but went on a 7-3 run to pull the score back within 10-8. North Dakota remained close for a little while, as a Riviere service ace brought the score to 17-15, Jackrabbits. From there, SDSU ended the set on an 8-3 run to take set one, 25-18.

Set two was competitive again, as UND held 1-0 and 5-4 leads. SDSU went ahead and took the lead 8-5, but NoDak remained within five points through 31 points of volleyball, trailing just 18-13. The Jackrabbits closed the set on a 7-1 run to win set two, 25-14.

The Hawks never led in set three, falling behind 6-2 and 10-5 early. North Dakota battled, getting as close as five again later in the set, with SDSU leading 19-14. The Jackrabbits scored six of the final seven points of the set, to take the third set by a 25-15 margin. UND hit for a .250 hit percentage, its highest in any set of the game.
