Hawks Fall in Road Game to Hawaii on Friday Night

North Dakota will be back in action on Wednesday at 8 p.m. against Idaho.

HONOLULU – The North Dakota men's basketball team fell to Hawaii on Friday night by a score of 92-55. UND drops to 3-6 on the season and Hawaii improves to 6-2.

The Hawks showed promise early, leading by as many as four in the first frame, but a 14-0 Rainbow Warriors run in the first half flipped the script of the game.

North Dakota was led by Greyson Uelmen, who compiled a game-high 19 points, along with six rebounds, one assist and three steals. Anthony Smith lll logged 12 points.

The two teams combined to shoot 9-for-40 from three, with UND going 4-for-20 and UH shooting 5-for-20. The main difference came in the paint with the Fighting Hawks scoring 22 points in the lane compared to 54 from Hawaii.

UND led for 6:06 of game time, jumping out to an 8-4 lead early on and forcing four Rainbow Warrior turnovers before the first media timeout.

NoDak owned a 21-18 lead with 8:31 to play in the first, following an Uelmen layup. From there, Hawaii surged on a 14-0 run in the next 3:14 to open up the game and corral a 32-21 advantage. UND was able to get that lead down to as little as eight, but went into the break trailing 44-30.

With the game still in reach to start the second half, Hawaii opened up the frame on a 10-1 run to go up 54-31 with 15:34 to play.

The Hawks could not get the Rainbow Warriors lead under 20 and trailed by as many as 37 in the second half. NoDak would fall 92-55.

The Fighting Hawks will be back in action on the road Wednesday against Idaho at 8 p.m. on ESPN+.
