GRAND FORKS, N.D. – The North Dakota volleyball team fell in three sets to North Dakota State (25-17, 25-23, 25-21) on Saturday night from Betty Engelstad Sioux Center. The Hawks fall to 7-17 and 4-9 in conference while the Bison improve to 14-9 and 8-5 in the Summit League.
The match featured 20 ties and seven lead changes, as the Hawks were competitive throughout the night.
UND was led by
Paige Barber who tallied 10 kills on the evening, good for her 20th match with 10 or more kills this season.
Katy Riviere tied her season high in kills with seven, while
Vanessa Washington logged six kills.
The Bison went wire-to-wire in set one, as the Hawks fell behind 6-1 and 16-7 in the first. Barber led the way with five kills in the set, but UND dropped set one 25-17.
Set two was closer, with UND holding a lead by as many as four. North Dakota led 14-10 but conceded a 7-2 run to the Bison to fall behind 17-16. The teams then remained close, with a Barber kill tying the score up at 20-20. North Dakota State then scored four of the next five points to go up 24-21, in route to a 25-23 victory.
Set three was also tight, with the Hawks holding an early 8-7 lead. The set remained within three points of distance through the first 35 points, as NDSU led 19-16. The Bison led by as many as four, as UND fell 25-21 in the third set.
North Dakota will be back in action on Thursday at home against Omaha with first serve scheduled for 7 p.m.
