GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- The University of North Dakota women's tennis team opened up its home slate in style, rolling to a 7-0 win over Minnesota Crookston on Sunday morning from Choice Health and Fitness in Grand Forks, N.D.
UND (4-1) wasted no time flexing its muscles throughout the match, failing to drop a single set while also claiming nine sets by a 6-0 score to get back in the win column and improve to 4-1 on the season.
The middle pairing of
Nore Heinitz and
Jule Schulte kept their strong doubles play going, as the reigning conference doubles team of the week started it off with a 6-0 win before the top duo of
Ethel Li and
Aziza Aubin clinched the 1-0 lead for the hosts with a 6-2 triumph.
Alyssa Giupponi and
Manon Hallemans closed out the two-person action with another 6-2 triumph at the bottom court to give Hallemans her first doubles win of the season.
The sophomore transfer from Central Oklahoma kept her momentum going in singles play, cruising to a pair of 6-0 scores for her first singles win at NoDak while increasing the lead to 2-0. It was a flurry of scoring over the next few minutes, as the No. 4, 3 and 2 courts all nearly finished simultaneously to secure the match win for the Hawks.
Heinitz was the first to grab a win among that trio of courts, also notching a 6-0, 6-0 victory on the No. 4 court before Li followed right behind from the third position with a 6-2, 6-0 triumph to claim the match clinch. Schulte became the third Hawk to shutout their opponent in singles, grabbing her 6-0, 6-0 win from the No. 2 position.
Aubin stretched the lead to 6-0 on the No. 5 court with a 6-1, 6-0 triumph before
Andrea Pineda closed out the victory with a 6-2, 6-1 win from the No. 1 spot.
North Dakota will remain home for a pair of weekend matches beginning on Friday afternoon against Montana State at 2 p.m. from Choice Health and Fitness.
