JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – North Dakota softball suffered a 4-1 setback to East Tennessee State on Thursday afternoon from Betty Basler Field. The loss drops the Hawks' overall record to 13-13 on the season.
North Dakota out-hit the host 5-3 but stranded nine base runners as the Hawks left the bags full in both the fourth and fifth innings of play. ETSU struck first against UND starter
Jackie Albrecht as the Bucs pushed across two early runs without the benefit of a hit as three walks and an error by the visitors staked ETSU to the first inning lead.
The Bucs added two more in the fifth on a two-run home run which was the only blemish against
Katelyn Strauss in 3.2 innings of relief work.
Emily Marr closed out the final two frames as she faced the minimum.
UND's lone run was plated by
Angie Dumlao who singled into right field in the sixth inning to chase home
Callie Honig who led off the inning with her second double of the game and team-leading eighth of the season.
The Hawks are scheduled for two games on Friday. UND rematches with ETSU at 11 a.m. and will battle Dartmouth at 1:30 p.m. The Hawks' action against the host can be seen on ESPN+. Live stat links for both matchups are available at www.FightingHawks.com.
