JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – Tehya Armstrong pitched 5.2 innings scattering three hits and a single run and
Makaela Carr tossed the final 1.1 allowing just one hit, while holding off a bases loaded situation by Dartmouth in the sixth, and North Dakota avenged a Friday afternoon loss to the Big Green with a 3-1 win on Saturday from Betty Basler Field. The victory moves UND to 15-14 on the season.
The duo combined for nine strikeouts with Armstrong leading with a career high six. The freshman settled in after allowing a single unearned run in the second inning which included two UND fielding errors. From there, the right hander worked blemish-free frames in the third, fourth and fifth and exited with two outs in the sixth as Dartmouth put runners at first and second. Carr entered and following an infield single to load the bases, she fanned the threat at the plate to keep the Hawks' lead intact at 2-1.
UND scored the game's first run as
Katelyn Neumayer singled in
Katie Joten who walked to lead off the game. In the next inning,
Hannah Thompson delivered a sacrifice fly to plate
Brooklyn Morris for the 2-0 lead. The Hawks added an insurance tally in their last at-bat as
Callie Honig recorded a base hit into right field to score Thompson for a 3-1 advantage. Carr worked a 1-2-3 seventh picking up a pair of strikeouts to run her team-leading total to 60.
The Hawks turn their attention to Summit League play as UND travels to Vermillion next weekend for a three-game league series with South Dakota. The action will be contested with a Saturday doubleheader and a Sunday finale. Live coverage links for the series will be made available at www.FightingHawks.com.
