Hawks drop series finale at South Dakota

UND strikes first, Coyotes respond with five-run second in 10-2 win

VERMILLION, S.D. – North Dakota softball struck first on Sunday morning in the Summit League series finale against South Dakota as Callie Honig's ninth double of the season plated Angie Dumlao in the top of the first inning for the game's first run. However, South Dakota responded with a five-run second inning and then added four more runs in the fourth as part of a 10-2 run-rule victory in five innings from a very windy Hygaard Field.

Seven of USD's ten hits came in the second and fourth innings, while the Hawks (16-16, 1-2 SUMMIT) stranded a pair of runners on base in the top half of each of those frames.

North Dakota pushed across its second run of the game in the fourth inning as Katie Joten reached on a fielding error at the hot corner to plate Camryn Lasota.

The Hawks prepare for a weekend series at preseason favorite Omaha on March 29 and 30. Saturday's doubleheader is set for a 1 p.m. first pitch. Sunday's finale is set to begin at noon. Live coverage links for the series are available at www.FightingHawks.com.
