SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The University of North Dakota women's basketball team saw its season come to an end in the Summit League Tournament, falling to No. 1 South Dakota State, 84-55, on Saturday afternoon at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center. The Fighting Hawks finished the season with a 12-19 overall record.
South Dakota State set the tone early, jumping to a 22-11 lead after the first quarter while shooting 61.5% (8-of-13) from the field. UND shot 27.8% (5-of-18), led by
Kiera Pemberton with six points that came in the first three minutes.
The Jackrabbits continued to control the pace in the second period, outscoring UND 12-10 to take a 34-21 advantage into halftime.
The Hawks put together a stronger offensive showing in the third quarter, scoring 19 points while shooting 42.9% (6-of-14) from the field, including 60% (3-of-5) from beyond the arc. However, SDSU countered with a 26-point frame to maintain its double-digit cushion.
The Jackrabbits sealed the game in the fourth quarter, outscoring North Dakota 24-15 while hitting key shots to close out the contest.
Postgame Notes:
- Kiera Pemberton led UND with 23 points, shooting 8-of-15 from the field and 5-of-6 from the free-throw line.
- Mikayla Aumer and Nevaeh Ferrara Horne each contributed six points.
- Fatima Ibrahim recorded nine rebounds and two points, while also adding two blocks.
- UND struggled offensively, shooting 29.3% (17-of-58) from the field and 29.6% (8-of-27) from three.
- SDSU shot 44.4% (32-of-72) from the floor and outrebounded UND 54-26.
- The Jackrabbits held a 42-12 advantage in points in the paint and a 22-4 edge in second-chance points.
