GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- The University of North Dakota women's tennis team capped off the regular season with a 5-2 loss to league-leading Denver on Saturday afternoon from Choice Health and Fitness in Grand Forks, N.D.
The Fighting Hawks were able to celebrate the three members of their senior class prior to the match; however, the celebrations continuing after the match as well as
Nore Heinitz captured a win in singles play to become the program's all-time leader in career wins with 134. The Duluth, Minn., native passed former teammate
Andrea Jansson for the record and became the fastest to reach the mark in just four seasons.
Doubles play brought the intensity immediately to the match, as both sides were battling to take an early 1-0 lead. After DU notched a win on the middle court, the top pairing of
Ethel Li and
Aziza Aubin answered back with a 6-4 triumph to knot two-person play and turn attention to the No. 3 court. There,
Alyssa Giupponi and
Andrea Pineda rallied to force a tiebreaker, but came up just short to give the Pioneers a 1-0 lead.
UND quickly knotted the score at 1-1 on the No. 1 court, as Pineda grabbed a win following her opponent having to retire due to injury in a 4-4 first set, but the Pios picked up four straight singles wins to take the match victory.

In the 10-point tiebreak, Heinitz controlled the middle portion of the frame to build a comfortable lead before holding on for a 10-6 triumph and her 134th career win.
