Foreman, Hawks walk off Minnesota Crookston

Freshman’s two-run double completes comeback for UND in 7th

GRAND FORKS, N.D. – Freshman outfielder Alaina Foreman sent a one-out pitch into the gap in left centerfield and a pair of Fighting Hawks flocked home as North Dakota completed a seventh-inning rally to walk-off neighboring Minnesota Crookston 4-3 and earn its 25th win of the season in the final midweek contest of the campaign from Albrecht Field. UND moves to 25-22, while UMC drops to 20-30.

Foreman's effort at the plate capped a two-hit, two-walk inning for UND in the seventh. Camryn Lasota singled to lead off the frame and Taya Hopfauf drew a walk to put runners at first and second. With one out, Brooklyn Morris also reached base on balls to load the bases and set the table for Foreman's walk off double.

The Hawks committed two errors in the top of the first which aided a two-run frame for the Golden Eagles. A misplayed putout attempt on a sacrifice bunt set the stage for UMC, while a throwing error following a tough play on the left side allowed runners to advance and the game's first run to cross. Minnesota Crookston then used a sacrifice fly to bring in a second tally.

North Dakota threatened in the home half of the third inning with runners at first and second after Katie Joten walked and Angie Dumlao singled with one out, but an infield fly and strikeout ending the scoring chance for UND. The Hawks' next trip to the plate in the fourth inning proved similar as Camryn Lasota singled up the middle and Taya Hopfauf doubled, but both were left stranded.

An RBI double by the Golden Eagles in the top half of the fourth increased the visitors' lead to 3-0 and ended Unity Nelson's day in the circle after 3.1 IP and five strikeouts. Makaela Carr entered in relief and pitched the final 3.2 innings facing just three over the minimum with two strikeouts.

A pair of one-out walks were left on the basepaths for the Hawks in the fifth, before UND struck for two runs in the bottom of the sixth. A walk to Dumlao, UMC's second of the inning, plated Brooklyn Morris and a sacrifice fly by Callie Honig pushed home Foreman to cut into the deficit 3-2. Carr worked around a one-out throwing error and a two-out single to end the Golden Eagles in the seventh and send the Hawks to the plate where the fireworks ensued.

The Hawks prepare for their final nonconference action of the season as UND heads to the Twin Cities for two games against the B1G's Minnesota and a single game against Pittsburg of the ACC. Live coverage links for the series are available at www.FightingHawks.com.
