Hawks win twice against Jamestown

UND earns wins 21 and 22 with Wednesday sweep of the Jimmies

GRAND FORKS, N.D. – North Dakota softball's Makaela Carr saved both ends of Wednesday's doubleheader against Jamestown to preserve solid outings by Jackie Albrecht and Unity Nelson, and the Fighting Hawks recorded a collective 15 hits to push across three runs in each contest and earn a pair of wins, 3-1 and 3-0, over the Jimmies from Albrecht Field. The victories push UND's record to 22-18 overall.

In the opener, Katelyn Neumayer and Quincie Chunestudey each enjoyed two-hit days, while a two-run double from the bat of Makenna Alexander gave the Hawks an advantage that would hold with one out in the home half of the third. Neumayer followed with an RBI single with two outs as the Hawks built a 3-1 lead on four hits and a free pass.

Albrecht worked around a first-inning run and dispersed five hits and two walks to Jimmie hitters to produce six innings of work with five strikeouts and pick up her second win in as many starts. Carr entered in the seventh and faced the minimum to earn her seventh save of the season.

In the nightcap, the Hawks grabbed the lead in the fourth inning as Hailey Bethune singled into center field to score Callie Honig and Angie Dumlao followed with a base hit to plate Camryn Lasota. An insurance run was added in the fifth as Neumayer dropped an RBI single into rightfield to score Alexander.

That was more than enough support for Nelson who tossed 6.0 innings scattering five hits and a walk, while striking out seven. Carr faced two over the minimum in the seventh and worked around two hits to keep the Jimmies scoreless in game two.

The Hawks head south into Fargo for a three-game Summit League series with North Dakota State. The action begins on Saturday with a doubleheader scheduled for a noon start, while Sunday's finale will also start at noon. Live coverage links for the series are available at www.FightingHawks.com.
