Last Time Out
Last week, North Dakota took part in the Bison Open and won five titles. Over the two-day meet, UND finished in the top-three on 22 occasions and recorded six upgrades to the UND top-10 list.
UND's throwers kicked off the meet on Thursday and
Kenna Curry was the story of day one. She won the hammer throw with a PR toss of 222-3 (67.74m). That throw not only improved her No. 5 throw in the NCAA and her No. 2 mark on the UND top-10 list, but set a new Terrence Dahl & Donna Beres Track Complex facility record. The previous facility record was 213-8 (65.14m), set by Amy Phillips, an unattached athlete at North Dakota State, at the 2023 NDSU Tune-Up.
On Saturday, she continued her throwing dominance in the discus and won the crown with a mark of 157-9 (48.08m).
Eve Goldstein took third in the event with a personal-best toss of 146-6 (44.67m).
Ethan Thomas claimed a pair of titles and was victorious in both the discus (180-3, 54.94m) and shot put (60-6 1/2, 18.45m).
Boaz Raderschadt also joined Thomas in the shot put and placed third with a PR throw of 51-0 3/4 (15.56m).
Julia Matthews and
Katelyn Rath also finished in the top-three for the throwers on Saturday. Matthews was the runner-up in the shot put and tied her personal-best throw with a distance of 45-4 1/4 (13.82m). Rath finished third with a PR of 43-6 (13.26m), bettering her previous best mark of 40-2 1/4 (12.25m).
Carter Byron also placed in a throwing event and placed third in the hammer throw with a mark of 168-3 (51.50m). He was also third in the javelin with a throw of 171-1 (52.16m).
Jory Vasek and the sprinters in the 400 meters had the lone 1-2-3 sweep for the Fighting Hawks at the meet. Vasek was victorious in 48.06, trailed by
P.K. Moore in second (49.37) and
Maverick Kneefe finishing third (49.74). Both Moore and Kneefe recorded PRs with their times.
Kimberly Hitchen and
Emily Ash also had second-place finishes in their respective events. Hitchen was the runner-up in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 63.45, while Ash finished second in the pole vault with a height of 11-9 3/4 (3.60m).
Tiffanie Magnusson placed third in the long jump with a personal-best leap of 19-10 1/4 (6.05m) and moved up to No. 2 in school history. She also took third in the 100-meter hurdles, clocking a time of 14.64.
Cruz Megazzini finished third in the 200 meters and ran the No. 5 time in program history with a PR of 21.65.
Less than an hour earlier, it looked like Megazzini had ran the No. 8 time in program history in the 100 meters with a time of 10.76 and
Maxwell Roller also posted an upgrade to the UND top-10 list, tying the No. 10 time in school history in 10.79. By NCAA rule, these marks did not enter the UND top-10 list, as marks with wind over a +4.0 meter/second are unofficial. The wind during Megazzini's heat was +4.2 meters/second and the wind during Roller's time was +5.4 meters/second.
Anya Williams recorded a third-place finish in the triple jump with a PR of 38-3 1/2 (11.67m). She moved up to No. 7 on the UND top-10 list with that jump.
