GRAND FORKS, N.D. – North Dakota wrapped up its regular season on Saturday afternoon from Albrecht Field in a battle with South Dakota State. The Jackrabbits outlasted the Fighting Hawks 2-1 in front of a lively UND faithful. UND concludes the regular season at 25-28 overall, while SDSU finishes at 28-24.
UND opened scoring on Senior Day as Camryn Lasota cranked the first Fighting Hawk long ball at Albrecht Field by tattooing a pitch to straightaway centerfield for a 1-0 UND lead in the home half of the second. It was Lasota's team-leading eighth home run of the campaign.
SDSU responded in the fourth as Madi Conklin doubled in the tying run, while a sacrifice fly in the fifth scored the go-ahead run as a strike from Lasota in left field to Taya Hopfauf at the plate nearly hosed the runner from third.
The Hawks stranded two runners in the fifth and were unable to put runners on in the sixth and seventh as SDSU held on to complete the sweep and grab the second seed in the tournament.
Jackie Albrecht started her final home game at Albrecht Field and went the distance in the circle for the 35th time in her career. She fanned seven including two in the first inning with the second punch out standing as the 400th of her career.
The Hawks are headed to the Summit League Tournament in Brookings, South Dakota this coming week. UND carries the fourth seed and matches up with longtime rival North Dakota State in the opening round on Wednesday at 1 p.m. The Hawks took two of three from the Bison in Fargo during the regular season.
