Hawks Defeat Jimmies in Four Sets for Exhibition Victory

Paige Barber recorded a team-high 13 kills and Reagan McIntosh dished out 22 assists in the automatic six set match.

GRAND FORKS, N.D. – The North Dakota volleyball team defeated Jamestown 3-1 on Saturday afternoon (25-12, 18-25, 25-14, 25-20) from the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center. The match was an automatic six sets to 25.

Paige Barber (13) and Olivia Edlund (9) combined for 22 of the teams 46 kills (47.8 percent), while Reagan McIntosh (22) and Sadie White (16) contributed for 38 of the teams 41 assists (92.7 percent) in the match.

The Green and White never trailed in the first set and closed it out on a 13-3 run after leading 12-9. Lauren Perugini led the way with four kills, along with three each from Barber and Ava Galvan. Sadie White distributed all eight Hawks assists in the set, as they totaled a .318 attacking percentage in the frame. The Hawks won the digs battle by a 13-6 margin with seven different players capturing at least one.

The Hawks dropped set two by a 25-18 final, as they were led by Olivia Edlund who had four kills. McIntosh and White each had five assists, as the set was highlighted by two lead changes and 10 ties.

UND got back in the win column with a 25-14 victory in the third set. With the score tied 6-6 in the set, the Hawks used a 6-1 run to go up by five and never looked back. Barber logged four kills, followed by three from An den Hamer.

The Fighting Hawks closed it out with a 25-20 victory in the fourth set. It was a close set, with UND leading by no more than five. With the Hawks leading 19-18, they used a 6-2 burst to close out the set and the match. McIntosh delivered 11 assists and two kills, while Edlund compiled four kills.

North Dakota will open the regular season at home for the first time since 2016, as they take on St. Mary's on Friday night at 6 p.m.
