Grand Forks, N.D. - North Dakota will open the 2025 season on Aug. 30, visiting No. 17 Kansas State at Bill Snyder Family Stadium. Kickoff between the Fighting Hawks and Wildcats is slated for 6 p.m. The game will air on ESPN+ and will be carried on the Fighting Hawks Radio Network with a pregame show starting at 5 p.m.
The Fighting Hawks are coming off a 5-7 season and 2-6 showing in the Missouri Valley Football Conference last season. After a fierce quarterback competition this fall,
Jerry Kaminski was named the starter on Aug. 25. He appeared in three games last season and went 4-for-5 passing for 28 yards. The UND defensive unit will also look different this season, as first-year head coach Eric Schmidt installed a 4-2-5 defensive setup, changing from the previous 3-4 base defensive package NoDak had used for more than 30 years.
The Wildcats went 9-4 overall and 5-4 in the Big 12 Conference in 2024 . This season, Kansas State is already 0-1 (0-1 Big 12) after falling to No. 22 Iowa State, 24-21, at the Aer Lingus College Football Classic in Ireland last Saturday. Avery Johnson went 21-for-30 for 273 yards and a score in the loss. Jayce Brown was the most productive receiver with four grabs for 78 yards and a touchdown, while Joe Jackson paced the K State backfield with 12 touches for 51 yards. Donovan McIntosh, Zashon Rich and Austin Romaine shared the team lead defensively for the Wildcats with eight tackles apiece.
This will be the first-ever meeting between UND and KSU. Kansas State is the sixth member from the current Big 12 Conference to appear on North Dakota's schedule, with UND also battling Iowa State (2024), Utah (2017), Texas Tech (2009), Arizona State (1940) and TCU (1933) in its history. North Dakota will be looking for its first win against an FBS opponent since defeating Wyoming, 24-13, in its 2015 season opener.
