Hawks Fall in Three Sets to NDSU

Izzie McCormick recorded her 100th career service ace in the match.

FARGO, N.D. – The North Dakota volleyball team fell to North Dakota State (25-20, 25-21, 25-18) on Saturday night from Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse. UND drops to 4-9 overall and 1-1 in Summit League play, while NDSU moves to 7-4 and 1-0 in conference play.

The Hawks were led offensively by Paige Barber, who garnered a game high 12 kills. Lauren Perugini contributed eight kills, with five kills each from Ava Galvan and Matthea Dalton.

Izzie McCormick had a game high nine digs and tied a game high with three service aces. McCormick logged her 100th career service ace in the match. Kimanni Rugley totaled a team high three blocks.

Set one featured three ties and two lead changes, with the Hawks jumping out to a 2-1 advantage early. The Bison used a 10-2 run from there to go up 11-4, and an extended 13-3 run to take their largest lead of the frame at 14-5. UND was able to battle, getting the deficit down to four, but fell in frame one, 25-20.

Set two had six ties and one lead change, with UND jumping out to 3-0, 5-2 and 6-3 leads. The Hawks held an advantage for a good portion of the set, as NDSU did not take its first lead until going up 16-15. Following another Bison point to go up 17-15, Dalton and Galvan recorded back-to-back kills to even the score at 17-17. The two teams stayed close, as UND trailed 22-21, but the Bison ended the set on a 3-0 run to win 25-21.

Set three featured eight ties and two lead changes, as UND led by as many as three on four different occasions, up 10-7, 14-11, 15-12 and 18-15. Leading 18-15, the Bison used a 10-0 run to take set three, 25-18.

The Hawks will be back in action on Thursday at Omaha with a 7 p.m. start on Summit League Network.
