KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The University of North Dakota volleyball team fell in three sets to Kansas City on Thursday night. The Fighting Hawks drop to 6-8 overall and 0-3 in Summit League play.
Sally Marong led the UND offense with nine kills while hitting .292 for the match.
Haley Patton paced the Fighting Hawks defensively with 12 digs as the team's primary libero.
The Fighting Hawks and Roos battled throughout the opening set. Kansas City jumped out to an early 10-7 lead before North Dakota responded with a five-point run.
Ela Vlaisavljevic recorded an ace during the run, while
An den Hamer added two kills to help the Hawks take the lead.
North Dakota continued to hold the advantage, building a 19-15 lead before Kansas City battled back to tie the set at 20-20. The Hawks responded with a 3-0 run, highlighted by back-to-back kills from
Lilliana Montes. Kansas City answered to force extra points before taking the opening set, 27-25, to grab a 1-0 match lead.
The two teams continued to battle in the second set, with the score tied at 8-8 before the Roos began to pull away. Kansas City maintained its advantage and took the second set, 25-18, to move within one set of the match victory.
The Hawks looked to find a different rhythm in the final set, staying within a few points of the Roos early. Kansas City once again pulled away late, taking the third set, 25-19, to complete the three-set sweep.
North Dakota will look to bounce back Saturday against Oral Roberts. First serve is set for noon in Tulsa, Okla.
