GRAND FORKS, N.D. – Freshman goaltender
Caleb Heil was named NCHC Goaltender of the Week for the first time in his career, as announced by the league office on Tuesday morning.
Heil was perfect in his first pair of collegiate starts against Bentley last weekend, turning aside all 29 shots he faced to record back-to-back shutouts. He became the first goaltender in UND history to open his career with two straight shutouts and is tied for the nation's lead in clean sheets.
He came up clutch in the middle period of Saturday's finale, as he made two critical saves to help the Fighting Hawks kill off a 5-on-3 penalty for 1:52 and eventually cruise to a 5-0 victory.
Heil currently leads the NCAA in GAA (0.00), save percentage (1.000) and shutouts (2) while his two wins are tied for 10th nationally and sit fourth in the NCHC.
Third-ranked North Dakota hits the road for a two-game series against rival Minnesota beginning on Thursday night at 7:00 p.m. The contest will air on Midco Sports and the Fighting Hawks Radio Network.
