Soccer Narrowly Falls to South Dakota State

GRAND FORKS, N.D. – North Dakota women's soccer dropped its Thursday afternoon to South Dakota State, 1-0, at Bronson Field.

The Fighting Hawks (5-9-2, 2-6-1 Summit League) and the Jackrabbits (10-4-3, 5-2-2 Summit League) stuck together and the match remained scoreless for nearly the entire match. That tie only broke in the 84th minute after a misplaced ball from UND's goalie box found SDSU's Katelyn Beulke foot, where she converted to give the Jackrabbits a lead.

The effort displayed by the Fighting Hawks was evident throughout, as defense headlined the first half for both squads. Both teams competed hard against each other in one of the most physical showcasing's of the season.

Charlie Basinet gave the Fighting Hawks its one shot for the half while the Jackrabbits put three shots up in total. The Jackrabbits recorded four corner kicks in the half, whereas the Hawks had none. Thale Ruether made one save in the half, an impressive one from point blank range.

In the second half, both teams remained fiery to start, both registering early shots at the net. The Jackrabbits looked destined to score on multiple occasions, but the Fighting Hawk backline hung tough to make several key blocks to keep Ruether calm.

By the 80th minute, both teams had made major substitutions for the final 10 minutes. Shortly after that substitution, the Jackrabbits found an opening. After a turnover off a goal kick, the Jackrabbit offense fired a shot on the right, which then deflected off a UND defender and opening the net for a wide-open goal off the rebound.

North Dakota had no answers for it, and the final seconds ticked off with South Dakota State ahead, 1-0

Up next, UND will play its final match of the 2026 regular season as it heads south to Vermillion to face South Dakota. First kick is slated for 1 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 1.
