BOSTON, Mass. – A school record was broken in dominant fashion out east with a pair of new all-time performances in distance events while strong showings in the field events highlighted the opening half of weekend action for North Dakota track and field on Friday.
At the David Hemery Valentine Invitational in Boston,
Louis-Lys Fanucchi made school history by breaking his own previous record. The sophomore became the first Fighting Hawk in UND history to clock a sub-4 time in the mile run with his time of 3:57.90 that was good enough for seventh place out of over 300 entries. His also became the first-ever North Dakota collegian to clock a sub-4 mile time in the history of the state. In the same event,
Ian Busche ran a 4:11.13.
In the 800-meter run,
Aleksa Milanovic clocked a 1:53.33 while over in the 3000-meter run,
Ethan Adams crossed the finish line in 8:08.78 for a new PR and the fourth-fastest time in school history and
Matej Hrebacka ran an 8:32.02.
Friday competition out east rounded out with
Jonas Weschle, who earned himself a new personal best with a time of 14:24.87 for the fourth-fastest time in the UND record book.
Down south in Brookings at the SDSU Indoor Classic, action for UND began on the track.
Lennart Lindstrot ran a 1:52.33 for fourth place in the Friday half of the men's 800-meter run for a new PR.
Competition in the field events put another spotlight on the Fighting Hawks' Friday performance, featuring four total top-five performances. In the shot put,
Haidyn Skeen claimed runner-up in the women's half of the event with her mark of 44-5 1/2 (13.55m) while
Tyler Thoreson finished third for the men with a 53-6 1/4 (16.31m).
Over in the women's weight throw,
Julia Matthews won the events with her throw of 64-1 3/4 (19.55m) as
Kaylynn Red Tomahawk finishes fifth with her mark of 56-6 3/4 (17.24m).
North Dakota track and field will return to action at the same two meets on Saturday, with competition beginning out in Boston at 8 a.m. while kick off is set for 11:30 a.m. in Brookings.
