Women’s Tennis Drops to Idaho State

| By:
ST. GEORGE, Utah – North Dakota women's tennis concluded its weekend action with a neutral-site match against Idaho State, but fell 5-2, to the Bengals on Sunday afternoon.

The duo of Simone Cameron and Emma Roberts teamed up to collect the lone doubles victory for UND with a convincing 6-2 win from the No. 3 court. But 6-4 and 6-2 losses at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots, respectively, gave Idaho State the 1-0 lead.

Four straight wins in singles play clinched the win for the Bengals before North Dakota got on the board. It began with a 6-4, 6-0 loss at the top position before a tough 6-3, 6-3 loss at the No. 2 spot made it 3-0. A 6-4, 6-1 match at the fourth spot clinched the match and a hard-fought 6-3, 6-3 loss at the bottom spot forced a 5-0 score.

The Fighting Hawks ended the day with the next two singles wins off the No. 5 and No. 3 courts, respectively. First, Cameron—the freshman from New Zealand—rallied in the second set to run away with her 6-4, 7-6 win at the fifth spot. Then it was Alva Norberg, who—after a 6-3 first set win, was forced to play three sets after a 7-5 loss. She worked her way through an all-out battle for the final point of the day and fought for the 11-9 third set win, finalizing the 5-2 score.

North Dakota women's tennis will return home for a Sunday afternoon match against Bemidji State on February 22 with a 3:30 p.m. start time set inside Choice Health & Fitness.
