GRAND FORKS, N.D. – In front of a packed crowd at the Frederick "Fritz" D. Pollard Jr Athletic Center, the North Dakota football team wrapped up its spring practices with its annual Spring Showcase on Saturday afternoon. In the Green vs White format, the White side took the victory in a close 30-28 fashion.
It was an offense against defense showcase with the offense in white and defense in green. The scoring system was standard for the offense, but the defense earned points via takeaways (7 points), three and outs (3 points) and missed field goals (2 points). The defense was also awarded points for 4th down stops, receiving six points for stops in the offensive territory, five points from midfield to their own 26-yard line and four points from the 25-yard line to the goal line.
The offense jumped out to 3-0 lead, courtesy of a 28-yard field goal from
Luke Silvernale. The defense then responded with back-to-back three and outs to take a 6-3 lead.
The White team then jumped back in front, as
Jerry Kaminski scrambled for a rushing touchdown inside the redzone to make it a 10-6 game. Kaminski connected with
Cameron Weir for a 23-yard completion to help set up the score. Silvernale then split the uprights from 47 yards out on the next drive, giving the White side a 13-6 advantage.
The Green team tied the game up on the sixth drive when
Carter Kleinsasser recovered a fumble in the end zone to make it 13-13. The White side then earned points on three-straight drives, first via a 48-yard field goal to make it 16-13. Kaminski then recorded his second total touchdown of the game, finding Trey Kuntz in the back of the endzone, making it 23-13.
Brooks Hendrickson followed that up with a touchdown on the next drive to
Aidan Behymer, putting the score at 30-16, as the defense was awarded a few points in the process.
The Green side concluded the showcase with two-consecutive 4th down stops, earning 12 points. The White side would win 30-28. The game consisted of 55 total plays, along with eight punts, a two-minute drill and a 2v1 tackling drill.
