Fighting Hawks Sweep Chicago State for First Win Under Nguyen

SEATTLE – The University of North Dakota volleyball team swept Chicago State to cap its time at the Steve Nimocks Redhawk Invitational Saturday afternoon. This marks the first win under head coach David Nguyen. The Fighting Hawks finish the weekend 1-2.
 
Twelve different Hawks recorded a kill during the match, led by Lauren Perugini who had six while hitting .556. Olivia Edlund added five and hit an impressive .833. Reagan McIntosh paced the North Dakota offense with 32 assists and had six digs.
 
The Fighting Hawks started strong in the first set, opening with a 5-0 run. The Fighting Hawks continued to build momentum, leading to 9-1 run mid-set, extending to a 19-9 advantage. An den Hamer had two kills during the run, while Chicago State errors help sustain the Hawks' momentum. UND closed the set on a 3-0 run, capped by back-to-back service as by Bilge Balla, who made her first collegiate appearance. North Dakota took the set 25-12.
 
The two teams traded points early in the second set before another Hawks midway through the frame helped UND build a lead. North Dakota used a 6-1 run, beginning with a kill by Ellee McIntosh and capped by a solo block from Olivia Edlund to take a 14-9 advantage. The Fighting Hawks offense remained, hitting .619 with 14 kills in the set to earn a 25-20 victory
 
The Fighting Hawks' offensive firepower continued into the final set. UND used a 7-1 run to build a 17-10 lead. During the run, Autumn Jordan recorded two kills in her first appearance of the season, while Tessa Jacobson had two kills of her own. Sally Marong also recorded an ace during the run. North Dakota closed the match with 4-0 run, capped by two Chicago State attack errors, to win the set 25-15 and the match 3-0.
 
UND returns to action on Friday when they host Mercer for a two-game home series. Action is slated to begin at 6 p.m. in the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center.
 
POSTGAME NOTES
  • The Hawks remain undefeated against Chicago State, improving to 8-0 in the all-time series.
  • Six Fighting Hawks recorded an ace, led by Elena Stefanov with three.
  • Haley Patton served as the primary libero for UND and recorded four digs.
  • Elle McIntosh led the Fighting Hawks defensively with seven digs.
  • Olivia Edlund finished with five blocks, including two solo blocks, both team highs.
  • UND hit an impressive .478 during the match, recording 41 kills with just eight attack errors.
