RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The University of North Dakota volleyball team fell to Idaho, 3-1, in the first match of its doubleheader on their final day at The Joust. The Fighting Hawks fall to 3-4 on the season.
Olivia Edlund had a strong defensive performance, recording seven blocks, including two solo blocks, while adding seven kills on offense.
Lauren Perugini also turned in an all-around performance, recording her first double-double of the season with 11 kills and 11 digs, both season highs. The performance marked the ninth double-double of her career.
The Vandals jumped out to an early lead in the opening set and carried the momentum throughout the frame. The Fighting Hawks battled back to pull within one but were unable to even the score, falling 25-20.

An den Hamer and Edlund each recorded kills. Idaho battled back to eventually tie the frame at 10-10. The Vandals then took the lead and never relinquished it, taking the set, 25-20.
In the third frame, the Hawks used an early 4-0 run to take a 6-3 lead, forcing an Idaho timeout. The Vandals responded with the next three points to tie the set at 6-6. The two squads continued to battle back and forth, with neither team building a lead greater than two points. The set featured 12 ties and five lead changes.
UND reached set point first, but Idaho answered with two straight points to take a 24-23 lead. A costly service error by the Vandals gave UND the 25-23 set victory, forcing a fourth set.
The Hawks quickly jumped out to an 11-5 lead behind a 7-2 run. Idaho called timeout and responded with the next two points. A late run by the Vandals eventually tied the set at 20-20. North Dakota was unable to regain the lead after the final tie, falling 25-23 in the fourth set and 3-1 in the match.
The Hawks return to the court at 4 p.m. against Sacred Heart for their final match of The Joust.
