MADISON, Wis. – A balanced final round helped the North Dakota men's golf team secure a tie for seventh at the Badger Invitational on Tuesday from the University of Wisconsin Golf Course.
North Dakota carded a 1-over 289 in the final round to finish the 54-hole tournament at 867 following rounds of 293 and 285. The Fighting Hawks tied South Dakota for seventh in the 19-team field and finished three strokes ahead of in-state rival North Dakota State, which tied for 10th at 870.
The finish marked the second tournament this season that UND has placed ahead of NDSU in the team standings. Southern Miss captured the team title with a 54-hole score of 841, six strokes ahead of runner-up South Dakota State.
Tucker D'Allaird and
Nathan Peyerl led the Fighting Hawks individually, each tying for 29th at 218. D'Allaird posted rounds of 71, a career-low 69 and 78 to establish a new personal best for a 54-hole event. His 12 birdies were tied for 12th-most in the tournament.
Peyerl provided one of UND's four counting scores on Tuesday with an even-par 72 to finish alongside D'Allaird at 218.
Kagan Kollar and
Joseph Kortan were just one shot behind their teammates, tying for 38th at 219. Kollar finished with a 73, while Kortan fired an even-par 72 to close out the tournament.
Carson Skarperud also finished with an even-par 72, giving the Fighting Hawks three rounds of par or better on Tuesday. Skarperud finished tied for 53rd at 221.
North Dakota's consistency showed throughout the tournament, as all five Fighting Hawks finished within three strokes of one another in the final standings. UND also finished second in the 19-team field in par-4 scoring with a 4.08 average and played the par-5 holes at 15 under for the tournament.
The Fighting Hawks will return to action Oct. 19 at the Zach Johnson Invitational from Glen Oaks Country Club in West Des Moines, Iowa. North Dakota enters the tournament as the defending champion after capturing the team title last season.
