Before UND: At Southern Illinois University Carbondale he went 13-13 in singles and 15-6 in doubles with Peter Molloy...Went 7-4 in singles matches and 4-1 in doubles matches with Molloy during the tournament season...Molloy and Martinez were finalists in the Purdue Fall Invitational Flight C Doubles Draw...Went 6-9 in singles and 11-5 in doubles with Molloy in dual season...In high school he as a team captain as a freshman and sophomore...Named an Oklahoma All Star for two consecutive years...Finished 5th and 3rd in the state as a freshman and sophomore respectively...Was a four-star tennis recruit prior to an injury as a senior.
