Dan Frei is in his fifth season at the University of North Dakota. The 2010-11 season marks his fifth as head women's golf coach and his third as head men's golf coach at North Dakota.

Last season, Frei guided the Fighting Sioux women's team to a fourth-place finish at the 2010 Great West Conference Championship, and the men's team to a sixth-place showing at the America Sky Championship. He mentored a pair of all-conference performers in senior Kristi Lucken and junior Lauryn Job. Lucken and Job also earned GWC Winter/Spring All-Academic honors, while Lucken was named to the 2010 ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District VII At-Large first team. Sophomore Tyler Monda was named to the America Sky Academic All-Conference team.

Frei and the Sioux ushered in the Division I era in 2008-09, when the men's team placed fourth and the women's team fifth in their debut season in the GWC. Monda and sophomore Molly Martin landed on the All-GWC second team, while senior Amanda Kaler earned ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America honors and an NCAA postgraduate scholarship. Kaler became the first UND women's golfer to earn either academic achievement. Additionally, six of Frei's golfers landed on the GWC All-Academic Winter/Spring team.

In 2007-08, Frei and the Fighting Sioux said goodbye to Division II compeition by hosting the 2008 NCAA Division II North Region Championship at King's Walk Golf Course in Grand Forks. It was the second NCAA appearance in as many years as head coach for Frei, who also helped guide the Sioux to a runner-up finish at the 2007 North Central Conference Championship. A pair of Frei's student-athletes, Kaler and senior Natalie Ruppert, each earned All-NCC first team honors.

Frei's team was just as successful in the classroom, with Ruppert, Kaler, Lucken and junior Kelli Dahle each being named 2007-08 National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) Division II All-American Scholar Team. UND also boasted conference-high six student-athletes on the NCC Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll.

In 2006-07, his first year as head coach, Frei led UND to the most successful season in the history of the program, placing sixth at the 2007 NCAA Division II Women's Golf Championship. It was the second NCAA Championship berth in team history and the first since 1998.

Frei also led the Sioux to an NCAA North Region Championship in 2006-07 and had three of his golfers named to the All-North Central Conference Women's Golf Team. Junior Sarah Lucken earned first team honors, while sophomore Amanda Kaler and freshman Kristi Lucken were named to the second team.

Prior to being named head coach, Frei served as an assistant coach for the women's golf team, including the 2005-06 team that won the NCC championship.
