Bryan Martin enters his fourth season on the Fighting Sioux coaching staff and first as associate head coach. Martin works primarily with the team’s perimeter players and also serves as the program’s recruiting coordinator.

Last season, en route to a Great West Conference Tournament championship, Martin tutored a trio of freshman guards that all finished in the top 10 on UND’s freshmen scoring charts, including Troy Huff, who broke the rookie scoring mark with 452 points. Huff earned second team All-Great West honors, a spot on the All-Great West Tournament team and Mid-Major Freshman All-America honors from CollegeInsider.com.

In 2009-10, Martin helped senior guard Travis Bledsoe earn first team All-Great West honors after averaging 15.5 ppg overall and ranking second in league games with a 21.1 ppg average.

Martin came to UND after spending three seasons as head coach at North Iowa Area Community College in Mason City, Iowa. Martin guided NIACC to a 50-45 overall record in three seasons, including a school-record 22 regular season victories in 2006-07. That same season, Martin’s team was ranked as high as 15th nationally in NJCAA Division II and finished third in its conference, the school’s best conference finish since 1995. Martin also led NIACC to Region XI Tournament semifinal berths in 2006 and 2007.

Prior to taking over at NIACC, Martin served as an assistant coach at Indian Hills Community College (2002-05), Simpson College (2001-02) and South Dakota (1999-01).

Martin received a bachelor’s degree in history and secondary education from Simpson College in 1999. He led Simpson to a 60-19 record in his three seasons, including an Iowa Conference championship as a junior. He served as a team captain during his senior year. Martin spent his freshman season at Morningside college.

He received a master’s degree in athletic administration from USD in 2001. Martin and his wife, Angie, have three sons (Evan and Pearson, 8; and Kellen, 3).
