The longest-tenured member of the men’s hockey program’s full-time staff, Mark Poolman, ATC, CSCS is in his 31st season as the program’s athletic trainer and also doubles as the team’s strength and conditioning coordinator entering 2025-26.

The East Grand Forks, Minn., native has been critical in the modernization and development of the program's off-ice protocol, working to build one of college hockey's largest and most intricate weight rooms and recovery areas while also re-imagining nutrition and offseason growth. 

Poolman is a 1992 graduate of UND with bachelor degrees in physical education and athletic training. Poolman completed his master’s degree in exercise physiology at UND in 1997.

A native of Warren, Minn., Poolman was a three-year letterwinner on the gridiron and served as UND team captain during his senior season. He was also a first-team all-North Central Conference wide receiver for the Fighting Sioux in 1988.

Poolman and his wife, LeAnne, have three sons, Tucker, Colton and Mason. Tucker was a standout defenseman at UND from 2014-17 and has played over 160 NHL games with Winnipeg and Vancouver. Colton was a two-time captain for the Fighting Hawks and is entering his sixth professional season. Mason is currently a junior hockey player at St. Thomas.
