University of North Dakota head softball coach Eric Oakley announced that Jessica Anhel has been hired as an assistant coach for the 2012 season. Oakley also announced the retention of assistant coach Jennifer Glueckert.
Anhel spent the 2011 season as an assistant coach at Northwest Missouri State, while Gluckert returns for her second season on UND's coaching staff.
"I'm thrilled to have Jessica joining our staff," Oakley said. "She will bring an enthusiasm and work ethic that will be contagious to the team. Her experience, both playing and coaching, as well as her time working camps and recruiting, will be beneficial to the program as we work to compete on the national stage. Her coaching style and philosophy should contrast and blend well with mine, and the team will benefit from our working relationship.
Anhel helped lead Northwest Missouri State to a 25-20 record last season, the program's second straight 25-win campaign. While with the Bearcats, Anhel assisted in organizing, preparing and conducting individual and team practices, training and competition. She also coordinated team travel, fundraising and recruitment.
Anhel began her coaching career in 2010 as a student assistant coach at her alma mater, Saginaw Valley State, where she worked primarily with the team's pitchers and catchers. A four-year starting catcher at SVSU, Anhel was an all-region first-team selection as a senior when she led the Cardinals to a No. 11 Division II national ranking.
Anhel earned a bachelor's degree in physical education with a minor in mathematics from SVSU, and was named to the Dean's List in each of her four years. She is currently pursuing her master's degree in education.
