GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- UND's performance in the first day of the 2007 NCC Swimming and Diving Championships ended with both the men and women squads in the first place position. Fighting Sioux swimmers Natalia Busso and Chase Fillingham won the 1,000 meter, which was the only event of the day.
Sophomore Busso covered the distance in 10:28.59 followed by teammate Jessica Carlson in second (10:31.21) and Nebraska-Omaha's Lindsey Kline in third (10:36.10).
North Dakota swept the top three spots in the men's 1000 freestyle. Fillingham clocked a winning time of 9:35.85 while Erik Anderson finished second in 9:39.02 and Jeremy Blankenship finished third in 9:54.95.
The meet continues tomorrow with preliminaries taking place in the morning and finals in the evening. The tournament will continue through Saturday.
