Rory McMahon scored his first goal of the season and added an assist to lead the North Dakota men's hockey team to a 4-2 over Alaska-Anchorage on Friday at Ralph Engelstad Arena.
UND is now 8-1 overall and 2-1 in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association, while Alaska-Anchorage fell to 1-6-2 overall and 0-3-1 in the WCHA.
McMahon assisted on UND's first goal, scored by
Ryan Hale at 1:58 of the first period. Later (at 12:42 of the third period) McMahon scored an assisted goal when he knocked down a clearing attempt by Seawolves' goalie Kevin Reiter inside the Alaska-Anchorage blueline and fired a shot into an open net before Reiter could scramble back in the net.
Also scoring for UND were
Brandon Bochenski, who notched his team-high 11
th of the season at 6:51 of the first period, and defenseman
Nick Fuher, who scored the eventual game-winning goal on the power play at 0:41 of the second period.
David Lundbohm and
James Massen assisted on Fuher's goal.
Fuher's goal ?his third of the season--gave the Sioux a 3-0 lead, but Alaska-Anchorage narrowed the margin to 3-1 on a power play goal by Matt Hanson at 8:36 of the second period.
After McMahon made it 4-1, UND, the Seawolves' Curtis Glencross closed out the scoring with a goal at 17:46 of the third period.
UND outshot Alaska-Anchorage 37-12 in the game. It was the fewest shots the Sioux have allowed an opponent this year.
Josh Siembida got the win in goal for North Dakota, upping his record to 5-1 on the season. The teams will play again Saturday at 7:05 p.m.
