Sioux women ranked No. 1 in the nation

GRAND FORKS, N.D.--The Fighting Sioux women's basketball team (19-1, 2-0 NCC) is ranked No. 1 in the nation in the most recent USA TODAY ESPN Top 25 women's basketball poll, released earlier today.

UND, which has won 14 consecutive games, claimed 16 of a possible 27 first-place votes in climbing one spot from its previous No. 2 ranking. It is the first time this season the Sioux have topped the USA TODAY ESPN Top 25 women's basketball poll. Previously top-ranked?Henderson State fell?five spots to No. 6.

The Sioux most recently defeated St. Cloud State and Minnesota State last Thursday and Saturday, respectively. SCSU dropped out of the rankings in this week's poll. UND returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 13, when it faces?18th-ranked South Dakota in Vermillion.
