Chappell earns another NCC Player of the Week nod

GRAND FORKS, N.D.--University of North Dakota sophomore running back Ryan Chappell has been named North Central Conference Offensive Co-Player of the Week for his performance in UND's 37-0 Homecoming win over Augustana on Saturday.

Chappell, a native of Grand Forks, N.D., rushed 26 times for 254 yards (9.8 yards per carry) and one touchdown. His touchdown came on a 95-yard run that was the longest of his career and it was the second straight game Chappell scored on a run of 90 yards or more.

Chappell also caught one pass for eight yards and returned one kickoff for yards to finish with a game-high 292 all-purpose yards.

Chappell, who has now rushed for 774 yards and seven touchdowns in his last three games, shares the award with Nebraska-Omaha running back Brian McNeill. Western Washington linebacker Shane Simmons and UNO linebacker Jeff Souder shared defensive player of the week honors, while South Dakota kicker Tim Stanek was named special teams player of the week.

It is the second time in three weeks Chappell has been named NCC Offensive Player of the Week and the fourth time in his career. In five games this season Chappell has carried 98 times for 959 yards (9.8 ypc) and nine touchdowns. He has also caught 10 passes for a career-high 130 yards and two touchdowns.

Second-ranked UND (5-0, 3-0 NCC) takes to the road on Saturday to face Minnesota State University, Mankato.
