GRAND FORKS, N.D.--Junior quarterback Danny Freund has been named North Central Conference Offensive Co-Player of the Week and freshman linebacker Curtis Dublanko has been named NCC Special Teams Player of the Week, it was announced today by the league office.
Freund, a native of Kenosha, Wis., threw three touchdown passes and ran for two more scores in UND's 59-14 win over St. Cloud State on Saturday in Grand Forks. He engineered touchdown drives on UND's first four possessions and led the Fighting Sioux to 560 yards of total offense.
Freund completed 22-of-30 passes (73.3 percent) for 274 yards and was not intercepted. It is the third time this season he has garnered offensive player of the week honors. He shares this week's award with Nebraska-Omaha running back Brian McNeill.
Freund's 2,318 passing yards this season are a new UND regular season record, eclipsing the previous record of 2,247 set by Kelby Klosterman in 2001. Freund's 21 touchdown passes this season are two shy of the UND regular season record also set by in 2001
Dublanko, a Thorsby, Alberta, native, recovered an errant snap on a St. Cloud State punt attempt during the fourth quarter and returned it five yards for a touchdown, the first score of his young career. Dublanko also had a pair of tackles.
UNO safety Randy Kush was named NCC Defensive Player of the Week.
UND, now 8-1 overall and 6-1 in the NCC, closes out the regular season on Saturday at South Dakota. A Sioux victory coupled with a UNO loss at Central Washington would give UND a share of a third straight conference championship.
