UND finishes second in NCC cup race

GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- The University of North Dakota finished second overall to Minnesota State University, Mankato in the North Central Conference Cup standings, the NCC office announced today. The NCC Cup is awarded to the conference school that posts the best composite performance among all of its men's and women's athletic programs during each academic year.

Minnesota State edged North Dakota by 3.5 points in the overall NCC Cup standings. MSU had 87.5 points to UND's 84 points in the overall standings.

The UND men's and women's sports programs each finished second in the NCC All-Sports Standings. Nebraska-Omaha won the women's all-sports trophy and Minnesota State won the men's all-sports trophy.

On the women's side, the NCC awarded championships in 10 sports. UND women's teams won three conference titles (cross country, basketball and swimming/diving), while posting one second-place conference finish (outdoor track and field) and three third-place league finishes (golf, indoor track and field and tennis).

On the men's side, the NCC awarded championships in 10 sports. UND does not have wrestling or tennis, but among its eight men's sports, UND won two conference titles (swimming/diving and co-title in football) and had three third-place finishes (golf, baseball and outdoor track and field).
