GRAND FORKS, N.D. ? The University of North Dakota athletic department is proud to announce a number of noteworthy academic achievements by its student-athletes during the 2007 spring semester and 2006-07 academic year.
Highlighting the achievements is the academic performance of the Fighting Sioux men's cross country team, which posted a 2006-07 composite grade point average of 3.544, highest among all UND athletic teams this past academic year.
Thirty UND student-athletes had 4.0 grade point averages for the entire 2006-07 academic year.
UND's success in the classroom came while Fighting Sioux student-athletes were also successfully competing in their respective sports during the spring semester. The women's basketball team won North Central Conference regular season and tournament championships, an NCAA regional title and advanced to the NCAA Elite Eight.
The women's golf team won the NCAA regional meet and finished sixth in the NCAA national meet. The men's swimming & diving team won the NCC title and finished second in the NCAA national meet. The women's swimming & diving team won the NCC title and finished sixth in the NCAA national meet.
The women's tennis team advanced to the NCAA regionals.
Notable 2007 spring semester accomplishments by UND student-athletes
? There were 276 of 433 UND student-athletes (64 percent) who had a grade point average of 3.0 or better in the spring semester.
? UND student-athletes maintained a spring semester GPA of 3.076, the 10th semester in a row that UND student-athletes have topped a 3.0.
? An impressive 53 student-athletes maintained a perfect 4.0 GPA for the spring semester.
? Women's track & field led all UND teams with a 3.572 grade point average
