GRAND FORKS, N.D. ? Junior swimmer Carissa Gormally and senior diver Michael Hoenig have been named the University of North Dakota's Fighting Sioux Club Athletes of the Week for the week of Nov. 2 to Nov. 9.
Gormally, a Williston, N.D., captured four events at a pair of Division I meets last weekend. On Friday, Gormally took first place in the 50-yard breaststroke, 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle in a dual at the University of Illinois-Chicago. The two-time NCAA champion also finished second in the 200-yard medley relay.
The following day at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee meet, Gormally once again took top honors in the 50-yard freestyle. She was also the runner-up in the 100-yard freestyle and the 100-yard backstroke.
Hoenig won three diving events at the two meets, including first place in both the 1-meter (260.62 points) and 3-meter dives (258.37) at Illinois-Chicago. He finished first on the 1-meter board (240.10) at UW-Milaukee with a third-place finish on the 3-meter board (223.00).
