GRAND FORKS, N.D. ? Junior swimmer Carissa Gormally and senior forward Ryan Martens have been named the University of North Dakota's Fighting Sioux Club Athletes of the Week for the week of Dec. 1-7.

Gormally led the Sioux to a second-place finish last weekend at the Falcon Invite, where she captured a pair of events and took runner-up honors in another.

The Williston, N.D., native took first place in the 100-freestyle with a time of 50.92, the second-fastest time of her career in that event. Gormally was also a part of UND's relay teams that took first place in the 400-freestyle relay (3:28.9) and second place in the 200-medley relay (1:45.99).

The Falcon Invite was the last meet of the 2008 calendar year for Gormally and the Sioux, who will return to action on Jan. 30 when they host South Dakota at the Hyslop Sports Center.

Martens enjoyed the most productive weekend of his career as the Sioux earned their first series sweep of the season, defeating host Harvard 10-1 and 4-3 on Friday and Saturday, respectively.

Martens, a native of Selkirk, Manitoba, had a career-high five points in Friday's win over the Crimson, scoring twice and adding three assists. The following night, Martens set up David Toews' game-tying goal in the third period to put the finishing touches on a six-point weekend.

In 13 games this season, Martens ranks fourth on the team in scoring with a career-high 11 points. He has also scored a career-high five goals, including three on the power-play.

Martens and the Sioux return to action this weekend when they host WCHA rival St. Cloud State on Friday and Saturday at the Ralph Engelstad Arena.
