GRAND FORKS, N.D.--University of North Dakota senior center Ashley Langen has been named North Central Conference Player of the Week for her performance in a pair of NCC road victories last week.
Langen, a native of Kennedy, Minn., averaged 21.5 points and 15.0 rebounds in Fighting Sioux victories over Augustana and Minnesota Duluth on Saturday. She also shot 66.7 percent (16-for-24) from the field in the two games.
In Thursday's 83-75 win at Augustana, Langen scored 24 points and pulled down a game-high 16 rebounds, while moving into second place on UND's all-time scoring list. Two days later in a 106-49 win over Minnesota Duluth, Langen scored 19 points to go with a game-high 14 rebounds. She also made the first three-pointers of her career, going 2-for-3 from behind the arc.
It is the third time this season Langen has been named NCC Player of the Week and the eighth time in her career. It is also the third consecutive week a Sioux player has nabbed weekly conference honors. UND junior forward Kierah Kimbrough was named player of the week each of the previous two weeks.
In 24 games this season, Langen is averaging 16.4 points and an NCC-leading 10.7 rebounds per game.
The third-ranked Fighting Sioux (23-1, 8-1 NCC) return to action on Thursday when they travel to South Dakota for a first-place showdown with the fourth-ranked Coyotes. UND will then return home to host Nebraska-Omaha on Saturday.
