GRAND FORKS, N.D.--University of North Dakota head football coach Chris Mussman finalized his coaching staff today with three current assistants adding new duties and one new assistant being named to the staff.
Mussman announced that co-defensive coordinator Mike Mannausau has been promoted to assistant head coach, running backs coach Greg Breitbach has been named offensive coordinator and receivers coach Tim Belmore has been named recruiting coordinator. Mussman also announced the hiring of Reid “Digger” Anderson to round out UND's coaching staff.
Mannausau completed his fourth season on the UND coaching staff in 2007 and his second as co-defensive coordinator, sharing those duties with John Kelling. Last season the Sioux led the North Central Conference in total defense and pass defense and in 2006 led the league in scoring defense. A four-year letterwinner for the Sioux from 1994-98, Mannausau also spent two seasons as a graduate assistant coach at UND in 2001 and 2002.
Breitbach assumes the offensive coordinator duties previously held by Mussman. Breitbach has spent the previous two seasons as UND's running backs coach, helping tutor Ryan Chappell to a record-breaking freshman season in 2006 and an All-America season in 2007. Breitbach has previous offensive coordinator experience at Wisconsin-Stevens Point (2003-05) and Montana-Western (1996-98).
The 2008 season will mark Belmore's ninth season as UND's receivers coach. He has coached the NCC's leading receiver in each of the last four seasons, including 2007 Harlon Hill Trophy finalist Weston Dressler, who owns virtually every school receiving record at UND.
Anderson, who spent the 2007 season as a volunteer assistant coach for the Fighting Sioux, has been named a full-time member of the staff and will work with the team's inside linebackers, duties which were previously handled by Mannausau. Anderson was a standout linebacker for the Sioux from 2002 to 2005 and was a three-time All-North Central Conference first team selection and two-time NCC Most Valuable Linebacker. Anderson earned 15 different All-America awards in his career and was a Harlon Hill Trophy finalist in 2005.
Earlier this spring Mussman hired Rod Carey as offensive line coach and Josh Kotelnicki as special teams coordinator and outside linebackers coach.
