GRAND FORKS, N.D. ? Senior defenseman Joe Finley and senior guard Danye Guinn have been named the University of North Dakota's Fighting Sioux Club Athletes of the Week for the week of Jan. 19 to Jan. 25.
Finley enjoyed the first four-point night of his collegiate career in UND's 8-3 win over then-No. 4 Denver last Friday in Grand Forks. Finley scored a power-play goal and added a career-high three assists to help UND climb into second place in the WCHA standings, one point behind the league-leading Pioneers.
In 12 games this season, Finley, a native of Edina, Minn., has two goals and six assists for eight points. He also owns a +4 plus/minus rating.
Finley and the Sioux men's hockey team will be in St. Cloud State on Friday and Saturday to face the Huskies.
Guinn joined an exclusive club in last Tuesday's 108-44 win over Sioux Falls, becoming the 27th player in the history of UND women's basketball to score 1,000 career points. The St. Francis, Minn., native led all players with 17 points while dishing out a team-high seven assists.
In Saturday's 75-59 win over South Dakota, Guinn scored 12 points and added a career-high 10 rebounds for the first double-double of her collegiate career.
In 19 games this season, Guinn is averaging 10.9 points and a team-leading 3.9 assists per game. She is also shooting a team-leading 38.8 percent from 3-point range.
Guinn and the Sioux look to extend their winning streak to five games tonight at Ball State.
