Men's hockey clip pops up in recent movie

GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- Even with the off week, the University of North Dakota men's hockey team could be seen this weekend.

A 1-2 second clip of UND's 2000 quarterfinal game against Niagara could be seen in the movie He's Just Not That Into You, a romantic comedy that was the No. 1 movie in the United States last weekend. In one of the movie's scenes, Alex (played by Justin Long) comments on the game, as he's talking to his roommate Conor (played by Kevin Connelly), saying, "C'mon, (Kevin) Spiewak! This isn't the Ice Capades out there."

Alex must have sensed that Spiewak wasn't  living up to his reputation as one of the hardest workers on the team. Something must of clicked for Spiewak. Later in that 2000 game, Spiewak scored UND's final goal at the 13:31 mark (assisted by other Sioux stalwarts Jeff Panzer and Bryan Lundbohm), as the Sioux won 4-1 on the way to their sixth national championship.

College sports clips often find their way to films and televison shows. The NCAA partners with licensing compaines to sell and distribute and use various clips in their productions.
