GRAND FORKS, N.D. ? University of North Dakota tight ends coach Paul Charbonneau has been invited to assist the Saskatchewan Roughriders' coaching staff during the Canadian Football League club's training camp beginning June 3 in Regina, Saskatchewan.  

Charbonneau, a native of Ottawa, Ontario, is one of seven guest coaches invited to camp and will assist Saskatchewan offensive line coach Bob Wylie. Charbonneau has previously assisted Wylie as a training camp guest coach with the CFL's Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

Charbonneau joined the UND coaching staff in 2005 and spent his first two seasons as a volunteer assistant coach. He was named tight ends coach prior to the 2007 season and in each of his two years in that position has mentored an all-conference tight end: senior Blair Grover was named to the All-Great West Conference first team last season and senior Troy Ott earned All-North Central Conference second team honors in 2007. Prior to that, UND had not had an all-conference tight end since 2000.

Before coming to UND, Charbonneau served as the head football coach of the Manitoba provincial champions St-James Rods in 2005. Prior to that, Charbonneau spent three years as the offensive line coach at Mount Allison University in New Brunswick.

An Ottawa, Ontario, native, Charbonneau received his bachelor's degree from Mount Allison, where he was an offensive lineman for the Mounties.

Saskatchewan's roster features three former UND standouts: wide receiver Weston Dressler (2004-07), defensive lineman Scott Schultz (1997-00) and cornerback Donovan Alexander (2004-07). Dressler was named the CFL's Most Outstanding Rookie last season while Schultz, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2001 CFL College Draft, completed his eighth season with the franchise. Alexander was acquired from Montreal in February after dressing for four games as a rookie.

The Roughriders went 12-6 in 2008 and finished in second place in the CFL's West Division.
