GRAND FORKS, N.D. - Former University of North Dakota standout and current New Jersey Devil Zach Parise was named to the 2010 United States Olympic team that will compete in Vancouver next month, it was announced today by USA Hockey.
Parise becomes the fourth current or former Fighting Sioux hockey player selected to compete in the 2010 Olympic Games. Earlier this week, former UND All-American and current Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews was named to the Canadian Olympic team. In December, current Sioux Monique and Jocelyne Lamouruex were named to the U.S. women's Olympic team.
In 39 games this season with the Devils, Parise has 17 goals and 25 assists for a team-leading 42 points. He also leads the National Hockey League in plus/minus with a +21 rating.
Parise played two seasons at UND (2002-04) and was a Hobey Baker Award finalist in each of his two seasons. The Faribault, Minn., native scored 116 points in 76 career games and was a first-team All-American as a sophomore. He was also named to the All-WCHA team in each of his two seasons.
Parise becomes the 22nd Fighting Sioux to represent his country at the Olympic Games.
