POCATELLO, Idaho--Paced by a trio of top-five finishers in Josh LaBlanc, Creighton Schroyer and Brandon Quesenberry, the Fighting Sioux men's track and field team kicked off the indoor season at the Bengal Shoot Out hosted by Idaho State University.
The meet was scored in a dual format and although UND went winless in the team standings against ISU, Brigham Young, Utah State, Utah Valley, Southern Utah and Weber State, several Sioux turned in standout individual performances.
LaBlanc, a senior from International Falls, Minn., turned in a fifth-place showing in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 8:55.22.
Schroyer, meanwhile, placed fifth in the shot put with a throw 14.99 meters. The senior from Pipestone, Minn., native also came through with a seventh-place finish in the weight throw, recording a toss of 13.8 meters.
Quesenberry, a native of Billings, Mont., placed fifth in the weight throw and seventh in the shot put. He recorded a toss of 14.5 meters in the weight throw and a throw of 14.68 meters in the shot put.
Senior Nicholas Wilkens (Bismarck, N.D.) also provided the Sioux with a pair of top-10 performances. He finished sixth in the triple jump with a leap of 12.6 meters, then placed ninth in the long jump with a mark of 6.21 meters.
Freshman Jonathon Kind (Neillsville, Wis.) made his collegiate debut with a 10th-place finish in the long jump, recording a jump of 6.16 meters.
