Sioux men ranked fifth in Great West indoor preseason poll

GRAND FORKS, N.D. - The University of North Dakota men's track and field team is ranked fifth in the 2010 Great West Conference preseason men's indoor track and field poll released today by the conference office.

UND received 31 points in a vote of the conference's head coaches.

Utah Valley received six of eight-first-place votes and was tabbed as the preseason conference favorite. South Dakota received the other two first-place votes and is ranked No. 2. Houston Baptist and Texas Pan-American rounded out the top five, ranking third and fourth respectively.

The Sioux opened the indoor season last Saturday at the Bengal Shoot Out, hosted by Idaho State in Pocatello, Idaho. UND received eight top-10 individual performances, including two each by seniors Creighton Schroyer (Pipestone, Minn.) and Nicholas Wilkens (Bismarck, N.D.) and junior Brandon Quesenberry (Billings, Mont.).

UND is led by 28th-year head coach Mike Grandall, the longest-tenured member of the Sioux athletics coaching staff.

The 2010 GWC Indoor Championship will be hosted by South Dakota Feb. 26-27 at the DakotaDome in Vermillion.
